Privacy policy

Screen Pals is made to keep your life on your phone. Here is exactly what stays with you, and the little our server needs.

Stays only on your phone

  • Your wellbeing numbers: screen time, reel minutes, the mood meter, your daily goal and streaks, water, meals and eye rests.
  • Which apps you use and for how long. The app reads this from Android's Usage access to react and to count reels, and keeps it on the phone.
  • Your pals, their animations and any GIFs or pictures you add, the photos you pick, your name, reminders, alarms and settings.
  • None of this is sent to us or to anyone else. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking in the app.

If you uninstall or clear the app

  • Everything in the list above is deleted from your phone for good.
  • We can't get it back for you, because we never had a copy.
  • What you bought is different: it's kept with your phone's device code, or with your Google account if you signed in. On a new phone, sign in with the same Google account and your purchases come along (or tell us your device code and we'll move them).

What our server keeps

  • A random ID for your phone and its short device code. No name, phone number or contacts.
  • Only if you sign in with Google: your Google email address and Google's ID number for your account, so your purchases can follow you to a new phone. We never see your Google password. Delete your account and we forget both.
  • Which version of the app you have and when it last connected.
  • What you bought or redeemed, and when; your credits and how many custom characters you can make.
  • A note for each AI picture: when it was made, what kind (a character or an animation) and what it cost. Never the picture or your photo.
  • Like any website, our hosting provider (Supabase) keeps short-lived technical logs of requests, such as the internet address and time, for security.

How AI pictures are made

  1. You pick 1 to 3 photos. The phone makes them smaller before anything leaves it.
  2. The photos, and the description you typed, go over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes them straight to OpenAI's image AI with our drawing instructions.
  3. OpenAI draws the character and sends it back through our server to your phone. Our server doesn't save your photos or the drawing, only a note that a picture was made.
  4. For each animation, the approved drawing (not your photos) is sent to OpenAI the same way to draw the poses. Your phone turns them into the animation and keeps it only on the phone.
  • OpenAI's rules for its API say that what's sent through it isn't used to train its models, and may be kept for up to 30 days to check for abuse before it's deleted. See openai.com/policies.
  • Please only use photos of yourself, your family or your pets, or photos you have permission to use.

Permissions and why

  • Display over other apps: so your pal can walk on your screen.
  • Usage access (optional): to know which app is open, for reactions, screen time and the mood meter. It never sees what's inside an app.
  • Notifications and alarms: reminders, alarms and the note that your pal is out.
  • Internet: only for purchases, vouchers, Google sign-in and AI pictures.

Payments and sharing

  • You pay in the app through Razorpay (UPI, cards, net banking), or unlock a plan with a voucher. The payment company handles the payment: we never see your card, UPI or bank details.
  • We don't sell or share your information with anyone. The only other companies involved are the ones named above: Supabase (our server), OpenAI (only for AI pictures you ask for), Razorpay (only when you pay) and Google (only for sign-in).
  • If you're under 18, please ask a parent before buying anything or uploading photos.
